The Seventies Called. They Want Their Halloween Disco Ball Back

But no, it’s mine.

Last spring, my husband called me at work to report that he had found something up in the attic. Something that we had not stored up there.

“It’s  round, and plastic, and sort of shaped like a flower. Can I throw it away?”

“No, at least let me look at it before you throw it away,” I replied. When I got home, here’s what I saw:

my seventies orange light ball

I have saved it since for Halloween. Some loving soul who had once lived in this house patiently made this by stapling plastic cups together in a circle, and then threading orange lights through the bottom of each cup. I wonder if they left it up there on purpose and later wondered where it went.

From what I know of my house’s history, it was probably made in the seventies or eighties. My Mid-Century Mom said that she remembered something like this from the women’s magazines around that timeframe. Does anyone know? (Please answer in the comments below if you have any clue to this mystery.)

My daughter and I love this thing so much we practically sing out loud everytime we plug in the Halloween disco ball.

Fa La Laaaahhhhhh!

Such a treasure to find, right in my own attic!

orange after glow

Remember the orange glass bowl from my Mid-Century Mom? It’s great for Halloween and filled with Tootsie Pop ghosties.

I love this time of year, and an orange-glow ball for Halloween from the recesses of my attic is even more wonderful.
